Dr. Fred Goldberg, O.D.


Dr. Fred Goldberg is the first member of the Virginia Optometric Association the be Board Certified and granted Diplomate status by the American Board of Optometry. The certification process required Dr. Goldberg to qualify as a candidate before taking and passing a rigorous certification examination. In addition to his premier status with the American Board of Optometry, Dr. Goldberg was awarded the Optometrist of the Year award at the 2009 Annual Conference of the Virginia Optometric Association (VOA). The most prestigious award that can be bestowed on an optometrist in the state, the Optometrist of the Year is given only once in a doctors lifetime to the doctor who exemplifies the highest standards and ideals of the profession. Dr. Goldberg was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award by the VOA in 2014 for his long standing and continuous commitment and service to the optometric profession and visual welfare of the public. Dr. Goldberg was the 2008/2009 President of the Virginia Optometric Association which he represented to the American Optometric Association before moving to the position of Past President. Dr. Goldberg has served the Optometric profession in many capacities including President of the Northern Virginia Optometric Society, Trustee of the Board of the VOA, other officer positions, and adjunct professor for several optometry colleges.



Dr. Goldberg received his Bachelor of Science degree after attending Temple and Harvard Universities. He then earned his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, member of the American Optometric Association, and the Southern Council of Optometry. Dr. Goldberg is also active in the community as Past President of the McLean Earlybird Lions Club and member of the McLean Chamber of Commerce. He is a Black Belt in Martial Arts, a biker and fisherman. He plays several instruments (saxophone, piano and recorder), paints, sculpts, and draws. He enjoys spending quality and fun times with family. 

Dr. Saadi Darvish, O.D.

Dr. Saadi Darvish joined the Mclean Eyecare Center team in May, 2017.  

Dr. Darvish interned with Dr. Goldberg during his medical training nearly 24 years ago.  After a 20-year move to Dallas, Texas; he decided to move back to the Washington D.C. area.  We are very fortunate to have him and his expertise.  

Dr. Darvish completed a B.S. degree at the University of Maryland and attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  His experience spans advanced areas of optometry, such as pediatrics, ocular diseases, and he has been instrumental in suggesting and acquiring advanced equipment to assist patients with the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.

Dr. Darvish is excited to get to know the Mclean community and looks forward to assisting them with their well-vision care needs.

Jason Goldberg, Optometric Assistant

Jason Goldberg has been an optometric assistant since mid-2015.  Jason, however, is not new to Mclean Eyecare Center.  He grew up in his father's business, and as a result, has acquired a wealth of optometry knowledge.  You can always count on Jason to provide a warm welcome where you will occasionally get to laugh at a joke or two.

Jason enjoys stand-up comedy and time with his boys.

Direeka Wheeler, Office Manager and Optometric Assistant

Direeka Wheeler is the Office Manager here at McLean Eyecare Center. She has been a member of the Eyecare team for the past 12 years, and is a native of Northern Virginia, When not in the office, she enjoys reading, cooking, writing poetry and spending time with her family.

Tammy Christman, Optometric Assistant

Tammy Christman is an optometric assistant and assists with billing and accounts payable.  Tammy is new to the optometry business after spending nearly 20 years as an educational administrator and school counselor.

Sheila Dwyer, Optician Manager

Sheila Dwyer is the Manager of the Optical Lab at Mclean Eyecare Center.

She has been an optician for 20 years.  Sheila enjoys traveling, craft shows

and spending time with family.

"I love helping my patients with frame selection and having them come

back each year . It's like catching up with family."

Janet Miller, Optician

Janet Miller has been with Mclean Eyecare Center for over 20 years and has been a trained and expert optician for more than 30 years.  Janet enjoys her time with her family and helping the patients; some of whom she has known for nearly 20 years!

Tashanna Penn, Optometric Assistant

Tashanna has been with Mclean Eyecare Center since September, 2017.  She is new to optometry, but not new to healthcare.  Her experience includes providing medical assistance at a busy OB/GYN practice. Her knowledge and expertise are a welcome addition.
